Blog/News Coming soon
11/28/2010MO75 'vs' Dirty Old Town - T-shirt
I'm delighted to announce that my 'weapons' T-shirt for Dirty Old Town has arrived. That's me in the picture modelling it, infact I'm in a very good and excited mood.

Another awesome job by Bristol's finest Uno One Print in Stokes Croft. The run of 35 garments look striking on black and charcoal grey Continental T-shirts.

Thanks to all who got in early on the pre-orders, and for those who are yet to, plenty of mediums are available in both colours. Anyone interested in buying one should email me, but do so quickly, these guys won't be hanging around for long!

In other news: I've set up a Facebook page as my central forum for showcasing my work blog/stylee so be sure to check it out and give it a 'like'. In the new year (maybe sooner, but highly unlikely) mo75.co.uk will be getting a makeover.
08/09/2010Exhibition at Urban Outfitters now on!
It's been an extremely busy and exciting month already. I'm exhibiting some of my canvas work in Urban Outfitters at Cabot Circus, in Bristol. It's under the stairs at the back in the bar area. As well as putting the work on the wall they let me paint a massive 3x4 meter swallow as a backdrop which sets the wall off nicely (shown in the pic, before the work went up).

The exhibition is titled 'Long time listener, First time caller' and displays 10 of the current faces from the 'Heroes of Horror' series, a triptych called 'Love Thy Neighbour', 'Trainers', 'Predator' and a pair of swallows. The collection is "broadly themed around horror, sci-fi, and tattoo with a nod to old school computer game aesthetic with a dose of simplistic retro charm". On show now for the next 5 weeks, so be sure to go and check it out. All work is for sale, pricing details to follow.
06/14/2010Tools Of The Trade
I'm amassing a cache of weapons to use against the world. And here is the first batch. I'm not sure making these could ever get boring.
06/13/2010Love thy neighbour
I'm interested in vintage old school tattoo designs and thought it'd be nice to focus some work in that direction. It's obvious that the style i'm working in can in no way related to old school, in any way other than content and themes. It certainly gives a nice focus to my experimenting. The swallow design, and playing cards are in the bag, and i'm now going to figure out what else I can make. This is a faux screen print poster that i'm actually digging to the extent i may have to go and do it for real.
05/25/2010The Full Deck : Draft 1
Some time ago I set myself the task of applying my stylised heads to something tangible and meaningful. I admit that making a deck wasn't my own original idea, I was actually inspired by a colleague doing his own set, but strangely I should have seen the obviousness from the beginning, considering I had designed the skull and beardy man to interlock, and be rotatable, just as cards are. Further back along, maybe 2 years, I began weaving the idea of a story using the card suits, relating all kinds of symbolism, but for the subsequent 2 years I've not gone near the subject, until now, and doing this has spawned the desire to finish the former project, so there is a good chance i may now extend the playing card thing further that just the cards.

It was necessary to develop a typeface within my minimalistic constraints (90º & 45º lines only) which proved interesting, and achievable within a 2x3 grid (some characters remain work-in-progress but the draft is there).

This project also forced me to consider how a woman might look in the style, something I'd been putting off because of self doubt, but I'm really pleased with how the 4 Queens turned out. Finally, while attempting to create a snail I ended up making a swallow, and I was so chuffed it worked its way onto the reverse of the cards.

02/23/20103D skulls
Google Sketchup models exported as 3D studio files, grimed up in photoshop. For no other reason than i had to.
02/21/2010Skull, Man & Zombie graffiti stencils

The first set of 3 stencils and a logo stencil. Each one is island free and requires a base of a dark colour or a dark surface. This image is entirely put together in photoshop, and the stencils are made in illustrator. The format for each of these guys is a 16x16 matrix of pixels with the allowance of 45 diagonals. I once made the entire Uk in this method and even went as far as mapping out the South West's counties, which took a while but i quite liked the challenge, these are infinitely more enjoyable to make.
02/21/2010Island free skull stencil

Created an island-less stencil from my skull design with minimal tweaking needed. The main addition to the design is a join through the eye and I actually quite like it that way.

09/05/2009Traditional disciplines

I started to worry my traditional skill was shriveling up and dying so i sketched my ceramic skull, and i was pretty happy with the result. I'm going to extend this into a side project with some digital colouring.
